Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I drive with RideCo while driving with Uber at the same time?
Yes! We understand that drivers are looking to have multiple sources of income at the same time. We encourage our drivers to drive for both RideCo and Uber so that they can maximize their earnings potential and diversify their options.
2. I have never driven for any ride-sharing service. Can I sign up?
Yes! We'd be thrilled to be your first ride-sharing experience.
3. Is there any cost to sign-up?
Nope! It is free to sign up to drive for RideCo.
4. Is RideCo operating legally in Kitchener-Waterloo?
Yes! In June 2015, the Ontario Superior court ruled that ridesharing and Uber is operating legally and always has been. RideCo is a ridesharing company and is legal. We are also working with local governments that will be providing regulations for the industry in the months to come.
5. What is your coverage area?
Our fares will not take you outside the set region, as shown in the map below. As the service grows, this region may be expanded. You can use our service along side other ridesharing solutions to maximize earnings during your time working.
6. What is the difference between RideCo and other ride share platforms?
RideCo is focused on truly shared-rides that are affordable for regular use. When a rider searches for a ride on the RideCo app, we provide a number of ride options based on price and time. Each ride option has a set pickup and arrive-before time. This way, riders can rest assured that they will get to their destination on-time. Riders choose what ride suits them best. They will share the ride with other passengers traveling in the same direction at that time, which is what allows us to have lower fares for the entire system.
For drivers, shared-rides means that you will have a passenger in your car more often and the fare will be longer, resulting in more earnings for drivers.
7. Can you clarify the insurance coverage?
Every ride on the RideCo platform is insured by an Ontario approved commercial ridesharing insurance policy. This coverage meets the insurance requirements for ridesharing set out in transportation bylaws in Ontario cities and includes up to $2,000,000 in liability coverage. For more detailed information on coverage and for the most recent insurance certificate please download the policy: RideCo Ridesharing Policy. 8. Do I need to buy a phone from you?
There is a security deposit of $200 (which will be taken out of your fares) for a phone that we provide you to use, payable over 4 weeks. That deposit is refundable as long as the phone is in good working condition when you return it. There is also a $10 per week fee for data on the phone.
You might be able to use an Android device of your own if it is less than 3 years old. Our team will have to assess your device to make sure it meets the technical requirements to run the Driver Partner app properly. You will also need to have access to data & GPS on the phone.
You can grab a phone from us for the deposit of $200 (which will be taken out of your fares), and hot-spot/tether from your current cellular device. That deposit is refundable as long as the phone is in good working condition when you return it. This way you will not have an ongoing fee of $10/wk for data.
9. Is there any cost involved for me to sign-up?
There is no cost involved with signing up for the platform.
